An essay may have a word limit, while an application form counts characters. Choose the matching target and watch your progress as you write. For byte-limited fields, check whether they use UTF-8. Emoji can be counted differently by different platforms, so check the final count where you submit your work.
With spaces includes spaces and line breaks. Without spaces excludes spaces, tabs and line breaks. Modern browsers count visible character clusters, so a family emoji counts as one. Other websites may use different counting rules.
Byte counts use UTF-8. Common Korean syllables use 3 bytes; English letters and digits usually use 1. Emoji and other scripts vary. This is not an EUC-KR or application-specific byte count.
